What will it be today?

Titus 3:8 …and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.

What was your good deed for the Lord’s sake yesterday? What will it be today?

Cover Story

Titus 1:15-16 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled. They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.

I wondered when I read this if “you can tell a book by its cover” had its origin with this verse. When people look at the cover of your life what will it tell about the book inside? Will they know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you are what you profess to be? Our deeds reveal more than most realize.

Confirm Your Faith

But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. - Titus 2:1

Paul wants Pastor Titus to teach people to live according to principles that are based on the truth of Christian teachings. When we do so, we confirm our claim to know God, to be a Christian. How do you live? Confirming or denying you know God?

Sound Doctrine

But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. - Titus 2:1

Good theology, no God theology is what you are to teach. God only intends one meaning to a passage of Scripture. A verse will not mean one thing to me and another to another pastor. And God means what He says. (Pray that I would obey more.) I believe that the simplest meaning to any passage is what He means; just like in today’s verse – speak about sound doctrine. In 3:9 Paul later says, “But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.”

A Prayer

[Jesus] gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. - Titus 2:14

I know that I disappoint God frequently. Paul writes that I am purified for Jesus and, therefore, “zealous for good deeds.” But I’m not always there. Lord, I am sorry for my failures and ask that You convict me to be more zealous to do good works for you. Amen.
