The Tongue

James 3:9 - With it [the tongue] we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.

I think the place it’s easiest to make mistakes with the tongue for a lot of people is in the home with those we love the most. But, and especially if there are children present, it should be the place where we easier show our love for and toward people. Try to make a habit of praising God instead of cursing. I think that’s what Jesus would do.

Giver-Lover

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. - James 1:5

God is a giver! Just ask. When you need direction, just ask. And ask until He answers. He will give – the sure sign of Someone who loves you.

Doing

But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. -- James 1:22

The “doers” take action by proving through their obedience to be God’s people. Non-doers delude themselves that they are Christian. Are you a doer?

Stumblers

For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well. – James 3:2

Put your hand up if you are that perfect man. I don’t see any hands. We are all “stumblers.” And we need the One who did not sin to clean us of some very wicked stuff. And He will. Confess your sins and seek His forgiveness every time you need to. His grace is sufficient.

An Active Verb

Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. - James 1:21

When we’re living in sin, its destructiveness can cause us to not want to read or pay attention to God’s Word. We do not want to be told what to do or that we are living incorrectly. James says we need to be actively putting aside our sinfulness and those things that lead us to sin. What else can you do so that you can receive the word?

Praying for You

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. - James 1:12

It goes without saying that I do not know what trial or temptation you will face today. But I am praying that you will persevere. The reward for you is great.

Great Harvest

And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. - James 3:18

James has already said that man’s anger get him nowhere with God (James 1:20) and here he extols the benefit of being a peacemaker. The yield is a harvest of God’s righteousness. Perhaps you could find some way to be a peacemaker today.
