Deacons must be husbands of only one wife, and good managers of their children and their own households. 1Timothy 3:12, NASB
In one sentence Paul sums up how the head of the house should be judged. Here he does not say how to get there; he just describes the measures for running a smooth house. My next statement is based on stories I've heard, admittedly, but it's the opinion I've formed nonetheless: Way too many men have been denied leadership based on a perceived failure in one of these three measurement tools.
My interpretation on these matters has not changed since I addressed them in relation to elders so let's link back there.
