But as many as
received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those
who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the
flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. - John 1:12-13
The purpose of John’s account of Jesus’ life is
evangelistic (John 20:30-31). Even here early in the book he gives us the how
and why of salvation – we “received” and “were born… of God.” As one of those
who “received” I (and I think you) need to be reminded on occasion of the how
it happened. Stop right now and thank God again that He chose you to be born
again of God.
