Overcoming Evil

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. - Romans 12:21

Unchecked, the usually subtle influence of hanging with the wrong crowd will inevitably lead to being overcome by evil. Another way of being overcome would be to allow the evildoer so much freedom that the Christian’s behavior alters negatively (poor attitude, demeanor, or focus). To combat both, the answer is to do good to the evildoer. A kind word, good deed, or even a small gift, would surprise many so much they begin to change their behavior. Whatever Christian good you can do is obedience to God’s Word for you and build a relationship that God may use even further.

  1. It seems to me that when our focus is on ourselves and not on Christ we tend to mirror the world, but when we focus on God we mirror Christ. We may be feeble in our flesh, but greater is He who is in you than he who is in this world. I strive to do good and with Christ, I can be kind and I can do good to those that do evil deeds.
