If you
do not destroy them and their idols (vv. 13-15) … you might take some of
his daughters for your sons, and his daughters might play the harlot with their
gods and cause your sons also to play the harlot with their gods.—Exodus 34:16, ESV
As God is commanding Israel to take Canaan as its own, He
tells them to destroy all the idols and places of worship and then to utterly
destroy the people because He is a jealous God. Getting the people’s attention,
He uses some harsh words, warning against become a whore by worshiping other
gods – as if there were any. This is why it is very important for you to trust,
obey, and worship God for who He is, and not for what you want Him to be. Do
not be a whore.
