Blood Pumping Muscle

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10

“In the beginning God created…” Genesis 1:1 says; that is, He made something from nothing. The same Hebrew word for “Create” is used in Psalm 51. Our hearts were not dirty and He changed them to clean. No. He, out of nothing, creates a clean heart at the point of salvation. Sounds weird until you stop thinking about your physical heart; He’s not that concerned about your blood pumping muscle being made clean.

Your clean heart is the desire you have to seek the things of God, your willingness to obey His commands, and your conscious efforts to glorify Him. These are things you did not have before, but cherish now. Your newly created heart wants to serve God faithfully. Being forgiven is cool.
