Then David said to his
son Solomon, "Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be
dismayed, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor
forsake you until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is
finished.” (1 Chronicles 28:20, NASB)
I find a lot of comfort in David’s words. He’s passing the
crown of Israel onto God’s chosen third king of Israel. The emphasis is on
God’s role: He is with you so do not fear, He will not fail not give up on you,
and He will see you through to the end. So, he says first, “Be strong and
courageous” then an often overlooked “and act.” Even with all that God is
doing, Solomon has a part; to act; to carry out his God-assigned
responsibility.
In my last two messages I’ve used, “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the
glory of God” (1Corinthians 10:31). We must do it well because they are the
“good works” (Ephesians 2:10) we’ve been assigned.
Act today. God will do His part. You do yours.
