Pray for Pharisees

"But go and learn what this means: 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT SACRIFICE,' for I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners." - Matthew 9:13

Addressing the Pharisees who were critical of Him at this point, Jesus chastises them for not caring for the people. They have not remembered Hosea 6:6 – the leaders should be merciful (showing “steadfast love”) instead of concerned about their own righteousness. The self-righteous cannot be saved; people who admit they are sinners can. Pray others will take the first step by admitting their sinfulness – even (especially?) our leaders.
