For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of
power and love and discipline.
(2 Timothy 1:7, NASB)
(2 Timothy 1:7, NASB)
You know I’m not a deep-Greek scholar, but I do refer to
several word study books. Translated here as “timidity,” in extra-biblical
works the Greek word refers to cowardice in the face of danger. Also, in my
translation of the verse “spirit” would be “Spirit.” He is never timid and
always has power, love, and discipline. Without Him I have none of those
things, with the Holy Spirit leading I have them all. But even if we don’t make
these inferences about the words, Paul is telling Timothy, “Get out there and
do it!” and that’s what I’m telling you this morning: “Get out there and do it!
Be a Christian.”
